New entrepreneur:
Andrea Longo (Italy)
Age: 27
Company name: (Start-up)
Sector of activity: Legal, fiscal and other consultancy services

The EYE gave me the opportunity to grasp the essence of human rights advocacy and meet with several scholars, law practitioners and human rights advocates. I even met the very same scholars I quoted in my dissertation! It was truly exciting! Thanks Jan and thanks to the whole TRF team!

Host entrepreneur:
Jan Keulen (Netherlands)
Age: 69
Company name: The Rights Forum / https://rightsforum.org/ (40 years of experience)
Sector of activity: Community, social and personal services

The partnership with Andrea was beneficial to both. It truly was a business exchange and an opportunity for us to give and to receive, to teach and to learn. Thank you Andrea! Stay in touch!

Period of exchange: 04/2019 until 07/2019
Duration of exchange: 3 months

Andrea found out about the EYE programme through a friend and immediately decided to apply to develop his know-how and skills in Human Rights advocacy, especially related to criminalization of solidarity and freedom of expression. On the other hand, Jan Keulen discovered the EYE program thanks to a newly acquired member of his organization. Enthusiastic about the programme, he applied as Host Entrepreneur believing EYE could represent a true chance to strengthen his network across Europe.

Andrea and Jan worked mainly on two projects: an experts meeting on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions and the development of a database of German and Dutch judicial cases related to the suppression of freedom of expression of human rights advocates. The first project was directly assigned to Andrea, who has been in charge of it from a to z. The second is still on-going and might be expanded to include also Italian judicial cases thanks to a future business collaboration between Andrea and Jan's network.

Both the entrepreneurs are extremely satisfied with the collaboration and would have loved to make it last longer. They are currently developing their common project to expand the branch already lunched in the Netherlands with Andrea's future branch in Italy. The future branch will work on Italian judicial cases regarding attacks on the freedom of expression and the violation of article 10 of the European Court of Human Rights. Jan's network will provide Andrea with access to its database and Andrea will have the chance to develop his own professional network and contacts.
