I wanted my chariot to be truly European, being Matera the European Capital of Culture of 2019. I found in the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs the perfect programme to make my dream become a reality. Thank you Rocio for becoming my "partner in crime”!

Period of exchange: 05/2019 until 07/2019
Duration of exchange: 2

Raffaele is a craftsman with a business that keeps his family tradition alive. He has a laboratory and a shop where he produces and sells his artistic creations. He decided to participate because he was impressed by the positive experiences of other colleagues from Matera and by the fact that many local art businesses were able to develop a valuable cooperation with the new entrepreneurs they hosted. His main expectation was to learn as much as possible about Spanish techniques from a person of the Valencian School of Art, one of most important schools in the Europe. Thanks to EYE, Raffaele was matched with Rocio, the New Entrepreneur, an artist and artisan specialized in the papier-mache art.

During the exchange in Italy Rocio helped Raffaele's team with the creation of the chariot for the celebration of the patron of the city. Rocio's integration into the team has been immediate due to her confidence with papier-mache art, which links Matera's and Valencia's festivities. The work on the figures and paintings for the chariot was rapid and full of fun thanks to entrepreneurs' mutual passions and curiosity towards each other's techniques. The entrepreneurs discussed also about the sustainability of their work and about a potential future cooperation.

The exchange allowed Raffaele and Rocio to connect Matera papier-mache school with the corresponding school in Valencia. It also created a bridge between two big European festivals: La Bruna in Matera and Las Fallas in Valencia, allowing new cooperation and exchanges between local entrepreneurs.
