Shortly after leaving University, Anna Heijker decided to gain some experience working as a marketing and communication officer at the Chance for Life Foundation. She then got employed to do some marketing and website-building in the Netherlands-Romanian Chamber of Commerce.
Working at the Chamber opened her eyes on the needs of this kind of services in Romania. She then saw the need to develop it in the country and soon moved to fill the market gap. She registered a company a few weeks later and applied for the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme as a mean for exchanging knowledge with more experienced entrepreneurs.
Quite soon, she got in touch with Richard Reese owner of Imparta South East Europa, a business offering communications and marketing services in Romania. She found in Richard the best business partner; he acquired a lot of experience and practice through the setting up of several successful businesses. Working in Romania gave her fruitful insights into business in Romania and surely develop her entrepreneurial skills.
She spent six months working with Richard, mostly helping him grow his sales and online presence. ‘Working with him was very enriching for me as he gave me invaluable tips of how and what to do when building your own company' Anna said.
Each week, time was set aside to discuss issues related to her business. In the spam of just a few months, thanks largely to Richard's knowledge, she had already launched a professional website and built a solid network of clients and contacts.
‘Running my own business is something she is truly passionate about but the first steps are the hardest', that is why she recommends Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs to give the kick-start aspiring entrepreneurs need' she said.
Anna Heijker works now as a communications specialist in her newly established business. She helps companies and people present
themselves in an optimal way by developing and implementing a strategy for their online marketing. Other services she provides include training in public speaking, pitching and usage of social media for businesses.
